CUMREC 2005, Achieving New Heights | May 15-18, Keystone Colorado

Invitation to CUMREC 2005

We want you to enjoy your conference experience in Keystone, Colorado, and to help you accomplish that goal you need to be aware of and sensitive to high altitude sickness.

The elevation of Keystone Resort is about 9,300 feet above sea level. The high altitude affects some people, especially those coming from sea level. There are two areas of concern between high altitude and sea level: the smaller amount of oxygen and the lower level of humidity.

While you're in Keystone Resort, avoid excessive alcohol intake, which exaggerates altitude sickness. Drinking alcohol at this higher altitude will affect you differently than drinking alcohol at sea level. Don't be fooled into thinking that you can't be intoxicated just because you haven't had any more alcohol than you normally drink at home. We want you to be especially aware of this if you are a designated driver.

Additionally, because there is less atmosphere for the sun's rays to penetrate, you can sunburn much more quickly than you may be accustomed to. Don't forget to apply a good sunscreen and wear sunglasses if you plan to be outdoors, even on a cloudy day, for more than a few minutes.

Attention to these suggestions will help to enhance your enjoyment of the Colorado mountain experience.
